Challenged in the re-purposing of Robbins manufacturing waste wood, ARCADIA designworks successfully invented, designed and prototyped four games and a line of wooden toy vehicles that premiered at Toy Fair in New York City in 2009.
Highlighting the set of games is the Original Ultimate Spinner (OUS) game with three national awards, followed by Truckles TM and a variety of unique bag toss games.

As a design consultant for TPDA, ARCADIA designworks assisted for a two-year period in the production of over 60 chair designs. Chair designs responded to a trend report from Trend House, NYC and Lowes Home Improvement.
Quick concept sketches of chair back elevations were produced in a two-week time frame, deliberated by the design team, and culled, resulting in a select group of designs that were further developed into axonometric drawings and 1/4 scale models. A~d also assisted in producing water colored, hand drawings of trend environments in which chair designs, including upholstery patterns, were superimposed. Resulting renderings dimensioned manufacturers drawings and a selection of 1/4 scale models were submitted to Numark Industries in China for prototyping and production.
Two chairs, selected by Lowes Home Improvement and Canadian Tire were manufactured, distributed and sold throughout North America.
Alba Technic LLC, Winthrop, Maine
With fall related head injuries being the top accidental killer among older adults and people in general not wanting to be seen wearing an awkward, bulky, helmet-like band, Alba Technic's research and development of a highly protective headband, one that is appropriately stylish, is certain to find acceptance by people prone to falling or frequent epileptic seizures. Based on head injury criterion used in testing motorcycle helmets, the SMARTY protective headband has been demonstrated in laboratory tests to decrease the force of impact up to 90% during a fall.
Working with a team of industrial designers at ARCADIA designworks and engineers at L&K Manufacturing and the University of Maine's Advanced Manufacturing Center, Alba Technic has designed and fabricated a series of prototypes that premiered at the 2015 TechConnect World Innovation Conference & Expo in Washington, DC and will serve as the Beta model for commercialization. The band is comprised of a patented composite material injection molded by L&K engineers into a 3D printed die with laser cut dilatant pads adhered at key impact locations and all wrapped in a stylish, high-performance, removable fabric cover.
Wentworth Technology, Saco, Maine
Speed Thru Pro Gen 1.5 Headset
Working from Wentworth Technology's engineering and design guidelines ARCADIA designworks conducted initial research on users of commercial grade, drive-thru headsets, current competitor products and accessories, and the environment in which they are used. Following the compilation of their research, A~d facilitated a one-day design session with Wentworth's engineering and marketing/sales team, leading to two conceptual drawn and digitally modeled options.
semi-collapsible lobster trap
Recognizing that typical three-foot lobster traps require a lot of valuable space on wharfs and on decks of lobster boats, ARCADIA designworks took the initiative to design a semi-collapsible lobster trap to help save on storage and transportation costs. With assistance from the Maine Technology Institute's, seed grant program, A~d hired a team of material experts from the University of Maine System, engineers and industrial designers to assist them in research and redesign of the new pot. The resulting trap utilizes a central partition or "shark jaw" that enables the folding wire mesh to collapsed upon itself. Achieved reduction in volume is approximately 40% in which five (5) of ARCADIA's traps equal seven (7) standard 3'-0" traps.
Collapsible trap currently in redesign with the goal of its future commercialization utilizing a more environmentally-friendly material than the pvc coated wire mesh.
home & garden
Jubiltree Company Anchorage, Alaska
ARCADIA designworks assisted The Jubiltree Company in design refinements, manufacturing drawings and patent diagrams for their wooden dowel tree.
Foreside Home & Garden
A~d produced design specification sheets of metal furniture and novelty ware for Transpac. Designs were produced using a combination of two-point perspective hand drawings, Adobe Illustrator and Sketchup models, of individual tables sold online and thru Foreside Home and Garden catalogs.

Our metalwork design services involve experience in architectural components as well as free standing pieces. The free form handrail shown below is constructed entirely out of stainless steel and without a 90 degree angle. A combination of mock up models and fabrication drawings enabled TigPro's craftsman to fabricate parts in their shop and install the handrail in place.

Molnlyke Health Care
Gothenburg, Sweden, and Brunswick, Maine
In 2013, ARCADIA designworks was fortunate to receive design commissions involving information display. From small and large-scale instructional murals to point-of-touch kiosk designs A~d, assisted by talented graphic designers, large format printers, and metalwork consultants, expanded their design services into the world of new media.
To participate as an exhibitor in the 2015 TechConnect World Innovation Conference & Expo in Washington, DC, Alba Technic's worked with ARCADIA designworks on the design of their SMARTY logo, information banner and large 8'x10' exhibit backdrop depicting users of their patented composite material protective headband.
Greater Portland Council of Governments
& Casco Bay Estuary Partnership
ARCADIA designworks designed and sourced the manufacture of this six-sided, all aluminum, graphic display kiosk. Easily snapped together without fasteners, the kiosk can be assembled in under 10 minutes. Stored in a durable, canvas-like transport bag, the kiosk is light enough for one person to carry to and from shows and when not in use store in a small closet.

Mural depicts abstracted stages essential in the production of polyurethane foam sheet material used for Molnlycke Health Care dressings.
ARCADIA designworks designed the SMARTY graphic logo, and the backdrop and banner shown in the above images for Alba Technic's premier display of their protective headgear at the 2015 TechConnect World Innovation Conference & Expo.
The Trilateral kiosk is an all aluminum structure that can be assembled in 10 minutes without a single fastener. Base, central post, perforated display panels and shelves all snap fit together and fit nicely in a custom transport/storage bag. Organizations like the Casco Bay Estuary Partnership devoted to protecting and restoring the water quality and fish and wildlife habitat of the Casco Bay ecosystem, while ensuring compatible human uses, uses their kiosk for local, public events. The Greater Portland Council of Governments, another non-profit in Portlands uses their kiosk for displaying local awareness information and providing responsive service and leadership to municipal members and community partners through regional cooperation and collaboration.
From additive to subtractive modeling, ARCADIA designworks utilizes a variety of techniques to make non-dimensional ideas three dimensional. With our new MakerGear M2, 3D printer we are able to fabricate working prototypes in PLA and ABS plastic. This new tool has greatly expanded our model-making capabilities as well as positioned our company to offer one of a kind functional plastic products.
Staff at ARCADIA designworks are encouraged to participate in public presentations and forums showing finished design projects and conceptual design theory. From public schools, colleges and universities to business and arts organizations, A~d presentations are often augmented with manipulative tools, such as the XYZ cube which teaches the Cartesian Coordinate System of three dimensional objects in space and urban planning chess set utilized in the Deliberate, Design and Act Workshop copyright 2011, in which strategic game play becomes the precursor to planning a small community upon a finite parcel of land with basic amenities, services and buildings.
